JT's Grommet Island Park for
EveryBODY
JT's Grommet Island Park for EveryBODY is an
oceanfront destination, an accessible beach playground and park for disabled
children and adults; and a place where everyone can have a great day at the
beach. The Virginia Beach Park opened in a grand celebration on May 22, 2010 to instant
acclaim. It features 15,000 sq feet of ramps and decking a shaded play area,
bench seating and areas to picnic. Soft play sculptures, accessible play
equipment and cushioned play surfaces provide recreational opportunities and
special beach wheelchairs are available for those who want to cruise on the
sand.
JT's Grommet Island Beach Park and Playground for EveryBODY. has shown the
world that Virginia Beach is waging a fight of its own against ALS and other
neurological diseases. Working with the national ALS Association, local
organizers of the JT Walk have agreed that 100% of sponsor donations and 50% of
funds raised by the walk will go towards continued funding for JT's Grommet
Island; a permanent endowment to fund park expansion and on-going maintenance.
